Treat What You See: How to Use Observation to Recover Your Child

Uncategorized Nov 28, 2023

Ever feel like you have enough supplements in your house to open your own store?

Ever tried something new, hoping for positive changes, but weren’t sure if it was really helping?

When my son was first diagnosed, I wanted to find professionals who could help me recover him. I made an appointment with our first biomedical doctor; they were called DAN doctors back then. I thought I was on the right path, but then we had to move. I lost access to our DAN doctor and had to start figuring things out myself. I was terrified, but turned out, it was the biggest blessing I never hoped to face.

Instead of solely focusing on improving lab test results, I learned to shift my attention to improving my son’s quality of life and miracles happened. I want to guide you through the approach I used to help my son progress from zero functional language to thriving in his first year of college.

When parents finally go from relying on others to leading their child’s recovery, they always have the same regret, "I wish I had started all this earlier."

What held them back?

I hear the same answers come up again and again. Maybe some of their reasons also resonate with you:

Not Knowing What Supplements to Try: We don’t feel qualified to figure out what supplements our child needs, so we consult doctors.

Fear of Supplements Causing Damage: We worry that supplements intended to help may end up harming our child's body or well-being.

Not Knowing If What We're Doing Is Working: We second guess ourselves because we don’t have a solid way to figure out if what we’re doing is right, or if we might be missing key things they need to heal.

In my Herbal and Traditional Medicine classes, I learned two fundamental rules: "First, Do No Harm" and "Treat What You See." When I realized I had unknowingly been using this pattern analysis method (treating what you see) to heal my son faster, safer, and more effectively, it was an epiphany.

Why Does This Approach Work?

Reduces Overwhelming Feelings:  It allows you to tailor supplements, diets, and interventions to your child's specific needs without being overwhelmed.

Increases Clarity and Confidence: It uses objective observation as a tangible way to assess an intervention's impact. While understanding potential benefits and risks, gives you confidence to know you’re making safe choices.

Saves Time: It saves time and ensures you are actually healing your child, not just improving a lab test.

Through the years I’ve shown thousands of parents how to use the treat what you see method. But instead of just listening to me, let’s look at Emily’s story and how she went from being overwhelmed and anxious about her child’s future to being the leader of her child's healing journey.

Emily's Story

When Emily got her son’s diagnosis she was desperate for answers. While searching the web, she read about children getting better using supplements and special diets, so she found a doctor who specialized in biomedical treatments. The doctor ran tests and prescribed several supplements and she was seeing some improvements in her son. In her social groups, parents were talking about the benefits of low-frequent-dose chelation. Emily felt that heavy metals were at the root of her child's problems, and wanted to start detoxing but of course, she was nervous.

After months of researching and absorbing stories from other parents who reported remarkable progress, she finally found the courage to begin chelation for her son. Surprisingly, within just two months of following the protocol, she saw more improvements in her son’s language, sleep patterns, and gut issues than she had throughout the entire year with the doctor.

There were a few issues and she was stuck on and didn’t know what to do about them.  She scheduled a Zoom and we talked through what she was seeing. I showed her how to be objective and helped her prioritize her next action steps. After our chat, Emily discovered some of the supplements the doctor prescribed were actually causing his issues. Everything cleared up when she stopped them.

Emily has taken charge of her son’s recovery and is equipped with both the tools and knowledge she needs. Now she just sees her family doctor for checkups. Grateful for the guidance received, she wrote this love letter to Detoxing Kids:

"I cannot thank Tressie (and Andy RIP) enough. I now know exactly how to help my son heal. He is asking 'W' questions and sleeping through the night (he doesn’t even wake up for the night doses). I'm finally getting my son back! I wish I had started sooner and not wasted all the money and time waiting for professionals to heal my son."  -Emily, mom to Caleb age 5.

I’ve been teaching this method to parents inside the Detoxing Kids Course and for the first time, I’m going to lay it all out for you step-by-step so you can become the leader of your child’s recovery, too.

The 5-Step Treat What You See Method

Step 1: Problem - Clearly Define the Issue

Write down the specific challenge your child is facing without making conclusions about the cause. Clearly defining the issue creates a foundation for the investigative process.

Step 2: Investigate - Dive into Research and Brainstorming

Now think about what might be causing the problem. Make notes of everything you can think of that might contribute to your child’s issue. Jot down any supplements that could potentially be helpful for each of the potential causes you’ve identified.

Step 3: Prioritize - Refine and Plan

Review the information you gathered in order to figure out the most likely explanations. Begin by eliminating factors that are unlikely and narrow your list down to the top three potential causes.

Under each of the three causes, list 1-3 interventions that are most likely to resolve the issue.  For each intervention or supplement listed make a note of details like starting dose, max dose, length of time until you see results, potential risks, etc…

Step 4: Action - Implement the Selected Intervention

Begin any supplement, diet trial, or specific intervention that holds the highest expectation of success and has a low-risk potential. Often you’ll start with half the recommended dose of a supplement, increase to full dose, and then observe for 1-3 days to determine if it is working.

Step 5: Record - Document the Outcomes

Keep a journal, and note any positive and/or negative responses you see. Focusing on one problem area makes it easy to figure out the intervention's impact.

The overwhelming array of supplements, interventions, and diets can leave you feeling lost and uncertain. The conventional approach, relying on lab tests and doctor recommendations, often leads to confusion and wasted resources.

There is a more effective and practical method – Treat What You See

By defining the problem, investigating, prioritizing, taking action, and recording the results, you are actually using the scientific method to ensure that every supplement or protocol you use is tailored to your child's specific needs.

Emily's success story illustrates the amazing results you get when you take control of your child's recovery. It's never too late to start positively impacting your child's future. Embrace this systematic approach to turn uncertainty into confidence, one step at a time.
