The Biomedical Treadmill Nobody Is Talking About
Can we talk about something that has been bothering me for a while?
Somewhere along the way, heavy metals became almost passƩ in the biomedical world.
Twenty years ago, parents were talking about toxic exposures, mercury, lead, aluminum, chelationāand why some of our kids seemed unable to handle things other children sailed through.
Today?
The conversation is methylation. Mitochondria. The microbiome. Mold. Inflammation. Mast cells. Nutritional deficiencies. Genetics. Glutathione. Testing, testing, and more testing.
Everything but the metals.
And I want to be very clear: Iām not saying those things donāt matter.
Some of them mattered a great deal for my own son.
But Iāve been in this world for 20 years now, and thereās a question I canāt stop asking:
Are we actually getting better at finding the root of our kidsā problemsāor are we getting better at managing everything happening downstream?
Because thereās a difference.
I know what itās like to treat the gut and see dramatic improvements.
I also know what itās like to get ridiculously excited over a good poop. š
When my sonās yeast and bacteria were under control, he was calmer. More attentive. More social and interactive. His scripting decreased. His play improved.
Those changes were REAL.
But eventually I had to learn something that changed the way I looked at biomedical treatment:
Improvement doesnāt necessarily mean youāve fixed the underlying problem.
Sometimes the very things that work are the things that can keep us running in circles.
You see improvement, so you think, We found it.
Then the improvement fades.
Or another problem takes its place.
So you look for the next missing piece.
Another supplement.
Another test.
Another pathway.
Another protocol.
And before you know it, you can spend YEARS playing an incredibly expensive game of whack-a-mole.
Thatās the biomedical treadmill.

Iām looking at what organizations like TACA were saying then, what theyāre saying now, and why I think that shift deserves a much closer look.
Some of you who have been around this world for a long time are going to remember exactly what Iām talking about.
The treatments didnāt necessarily change. The story did.
So before you spend another five years chasing the newest test, pathway, explanation, or protocol, I want you to ask yourself:
Are we actually discovering a new road to recoveryāor are we driving down a familiar road with a much more expensive dashboard?
